Step 1
Give them the gift of your time. Being in the hospital can be a lonely time. Spend time with your friends. Listen to them share how they feel about what they are facing. Laugh with them when appropriate. Cry with them. Don't let your uncertainty of what to say stop you from just being with your friends. Sometimes just having your company is all they need. Pray with them. Hold their hand. Hug them. Comfort them.

Step 2
Bring gifts of cheer. Everyone enjoys gifts! These gift ideas will brighten up the dreary hospital room and bring a smile to your friend's face. For a twist on a classic gift, bring a live plant instead of cut flowers. If your friend is a coffee drinker, stop by their favorite coffee shop and bring them a piping hot cup of their favorite drink. Hospital coffee just doesn't compare to Starbucks. Bring magazines or books to read. Some hospitals have DVD players in the rooms. Movies are great ways to past the time!

Step 3
Consider the gift of food! Unless prohibited by doctor's orders, food can be a great way to cheer your friend. One day of hospital food will leave them forever grateful for anything you bring!!! Try to plan your visit close to meal time and stop on the way to pick up their favorite food.

Step 4
We all know how hospitals just have that "particular" smell. A great gift to bring to your friend is an air-freshener.Some examples of hospital friendly air-fresheners are reed diffusers and flameless candles. Its amazing how a little scent of home can make such a huge difference.
