Things You'll Need:
- Sugarless gum
-
Step 1
To quit Nicorette gum, you need a replacement. If you are chewing the regular flavor of Nicorette gum switch to a flavored gum for a few days. If you're on 4 mg. a day of Nicorette gum start biting the gum in half, and chew only half a piece at a time. This should reduce your daily intake of Nicorette gum substantially. If you are chewing 2mg, do the same thing, so you're chewing 1 mg. at a time.
-
Step 2
To continue to quit Nicorette gum, after a few days, start replacing every other piece of gum with Trident Ice or a cinnamon flavored sugarless gum. Try the gum that says "Fire" if you like the Nicorette cinnamon gum. Make sure to bite the Trident gum in half too. These sugarless gums taste almost the same as the Nicorette flavored gum. In a few days you won't even know which one is in your mouth, the Trident or the Nicorette gum.
-
Step 3
In a few days after alternating gum, start chewing more of the Trident gum. Soon you will be off the nicotine gum for good. It's good idea to buy one last box of Nicorette gum and plan that box to be your last.
Congratulations, you quit Nicorette gum.

on 1/21/2009 My boyfriend has swapped smoking for gum. I used the patches which I think are much better. With gum, you're still 'rooted' to a habit and have to make sure you have the gum around. Plus, the stuff is EXPENSIVE. I know a guy who's been chewing the stuff for over 8 years - yuk!
