This is a simple survival technique that can start a fire with some steel wool and a battery.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Gather some dry sticks, leaves and wood and pile them up. This will help the fire keep burning once it has ignited.

  2. Step 2

Take a piece of steel wool and rub it against the connection end of a nine volt battery. The wool should begin to spark and flame. The wool will soon become engulfed.

  3. Step 3

Lay the flaming wool over the dry leaves and sticks. Keep the small area covered from wind. This will help keep the fire going.

  4. Step 4

Cover the perimeter of the area with large pieces of wood. Add dry sticks and larger pieces of wood to the pile as it burns hotter. I understand that keeping a box of matches is more convenient than some steel wool and a battery. Think of the steel wool as a much larger match to ignite your fire.
