You can save money on daycare supplies in many ways. The less money you spend on daycare supplies, the more money you get to keep at the end of the month.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make a list of supplies you need for your daycare. Divide the items into 3 categories: things you must have, things you should have, and extras that would be nice to have. This list will help you prioritize your purchases and help you direct your search.

  2. Step 2

Determine your budget for purchasing daycare supplies. This will also help you the purchasing process.

  3. Step 3

Ask friends and family if they have any old items that they are no longer using. You might be surprised how many people just want to get rid of their old baby gear and toys. Asking around may give you a good start in your collection of daycare supplies.

  4. Step 4

Shop at consignment stores and Goodwill stores. You can find lots of baby gear and toys at these shops for a fraction of the retail price. Many times the items are still in good condition.

  5. Step 5

Shop clearance racks and watch for sales. Target has excellent clearance. They usually end up going all the way to 75% off. They generally have huge toy clearance sales at the end of July and right after Christmas. You can also find office supplies on sale sometimes.

  6. Step 6

Stock up on crayons, markers, and paper during back to school shopping. Stores offer great deals on these supplies, especially after school starts.

  7. Step 7

Check out garage sales in the summer. Garage sales sometimes offer even better deals than consignment shops. Make sure you show up as soon as they start because baby items usually go quickly.

  8. Step 8

Consider applying for the Child & Adult Care Food Program if you are a registered or licensed daycare. You can receive reimbursement for food costs if you qualify.

  9. Step 9

Charge a small supply fee or add it to the weekly fee you charge the parents. This will allow you to afford the supplies necessary without taking it out of your profit.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't forget to have a few extra outfits in various sizes in case of spills or leaky diapers.
  • It is never recommended to purchase used car seats. If you transport children in your vehicle, new car seats are best. It is important to know that a car seat has never been in an accident.
  • Make sure all secondhand items are in good condition. Check to make sure none of the items have been recalled for safety issues.
