Things You'll Need:
- Mask
- Fins
- Boots
- Snorkel
- Wetsuit (not required, but highly recommended!)
-
Step 1
Talk to other divers in your area. If there is more than one dive shop around, start with one that someone you trust frequents. It is also very important to trust your instructor. Find out who your friends that know how to dive learned from. Every agency has good instructors and bad. Be sure to find an instructor that you are comfortable with.
-
Step 2
Be sure to get in writing the cost of the class and what all that covers. Some shops will charge a separate fee for each part of the education, some will charge a package price. There will be classroom instruction, educational materials, pool sessions, rental gear, instructor fees and open water dives. Most shops charge a package price, but be sure to ask before signing up.
-
Step 3
Get your educational materials in advance and start reading! When you come across something that isn't clear, take a note of it to remind yourself to ask about it. The more you read the material, the more information you will absorb.
-
Step 4
If your instructor offers opportunities to practice your pool skills outside of regular class time, take advantage of those opportunities! The more you practice, the more comfortable you will be in the water and the safer you will be!
-
Step 5
Last but certainly not least, HAVE FUN!!! Always remember: DIVING IS FUN!!

on 2/27/2009 I just saw the 'Girls Next Door' do this. Looks like fun, but definitely challenging if you get frightened underwater. 5*rec
