Holiday decor and winter blah's making you feel cold and dreary? Try some of these tips to make your environment seem much warmer than it really is. This will change the whole feel of your space as well as making it more inviting to others. I know that I'd be more likely to spend time in an area that seems warmer than something that's dragging me down.

Things You'll Need:

  • willingness to make some changes at home or in your office
  • energy to make the changes
  • pillows, blankets, throws, etc. that you already have or purchase some after reading this article
  • textures
  • plant life
  1. Step 1

Want to make your home look more inviting and warm? Make sure to take all of your holiday items down. In the winter time, I tend to feel a bit dragged down just by my surroundings. Why not change a few things around? Or change your whole room? One of the best ways to change your environment is to add some color. Colors like rich browns and tans add warmth as well as other dark, neutral colors. Do you have a common white sheet on your bed? Or a white couch? (Most of my eHow friends are parents, so I kind of doubt it, but ya never know!) Toss a couple chocolate brown pillows on your couch or bed, and voila! Instant change. It adds a touch of warmth. You could even use this same example for a throw blanket on a couch or bed as well.

  2. Step 2

You can bring back some life and energy to your environment by adding different textures to a room. Try adding textured rugs, slip covers, shades, lamp shades, etc. Different textures that you can buy would be varieties like chenille, corduroy, velvet, silk, flokati, (a personal retro type fav of mine since I found a beautiful flokati rug at Ikea when I turned of age...) etc. Not only does this add texture to your environment, but it knocks out step one as well...adding color to a room.

  3. Step 3

Add plant life to your environment. You can either add established plants and or ferns. Also, you could try starting your spring planting some of your bulbs indoors. This can make it seem more warm than it truly is.
