When you find a tick on your pet, it is human nature to want it removed immediately.
I have been a pet owner for over 40 years and have attempted to remove dozens of ticks. I have attempted many techniques including: Tweezers, vaseline, hot match, hot needle. Once or twice the heat technique seemed to work. Recently, I was exposed to a new technique that really works!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • No tools required except your finger and perhaps a latex glove or some other material to avoid direct contact between finger and tick.
  1. Step 1

Once you have discovered the tick, put yourself and your pet in a comfortable position and put on a latex glove.

  2. Step 2

The tick's head will be under the fur of the pet and the body will be extended. Place your finger on the end of the body and begin to rapidly rotate the body of the tick in a clockwise motion. This must be done at a fairly rapid rate. Be a bit careful to not injure the tick. They are pretty strong, but the idea of this technique is to bother the tick enough for them to back out of the pet not to injure or kill the pest.

  3. Step 3

Continue this for about a minute. If done correctly, the tick will back out in seconds. The first time that I attempted this, I was unsuccessful. After an hour or so, I tried again and remembered to use a more rapid motion. After a minute of rotation, the tick backed out.
I have done this many more times successfully since then.

Tips & Warnings
  • Rotate rapidly
  • Use a glove or other material to avoid direct contact with the tick. Diseases can be spread.
