Homemade Playdough

Have you ever wondered how to make homemade playdough? Well, it is very easy to do.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp. oil
  • 2 tbsp. cream of tartar
  • food coloring
  1. Step 1

To make the homemade playdough, mix flour, salt and oil, and slowly add the water. Cook over medium heat, stirring until dough becomes stiff.

  2. Step 2

Turn out onto wax paper and let cool. Knead the homemade playdough with your hands until of proper consistency. Use as is, or divide into balls and add a few drops of the vegetable juices to make green, pink, and orange.

  3. Step 3

Keep homemade playdough stored in zip lock bags. It should keep for a long time. Try mixing some colors together to make more colors.

AND.. the good thing about this dough is that it is non toxic. All of the ingredients are completely fine to ingest.

Make sure you put down wax paper or a cutting mat. Sometimes it takes longer for the colors to set up. Also.. wear old clothes. Oils can stain. But this can happen with the original playdough as well.

Tips & Warnings
  • try a dowl rod for a rolling pin
  • use cookie cutter to make shapes
  • use objects found around the house to add texture: thimble, meat tenderizer, toys, pens, etc..
