According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Salmonella contamination causing a nationwide outbreak may exist in certain foods containing peanut butter paste from a manufacturing facility in Blakely Georgia. Salmonella is a bacteria that often leads to food poisoning. Symptoms of salmonella poisoning include fever, vomiting, chills, sweats, stomach cramps and diarrhea. This particular strain of bacteria is called Typhimirium and is causing a serious salmonella outbreak among consumers purchasing specific peanut butter products.

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with internet access
  1. Step 1

Avoid cookies, ice cream, cakes and other foods made with peanut butter.

Peanut butter produced at the Blakely Georgia facility is distributed to various institutions such as the makers of Keebler and Famous Amos cookies. Be proactive and discard products containing peanut butter until the contamination is under control.

  2. Step 2

    Get medical help.

Salmonella poisoning may cause death in elderly, infants and people with a weak immune system. Get help if you have a high fever, trouble eating, retaining foods, or persistent stomach cramps.

  3. Step 3

    Get your money back.

Several companies have voluntarily recalled their peanut butter products. Access the FDA website and look for the name of recalled peanut butter products. Return the product to the store, get a refund and avoid possible salmonella poisoning.

on 2/22/2009 @omen-X: I don't envy you my friend. I've managed to stay away from food regulations. I'm sure the investigation was an eye-opener as to what really happened allowing a national salmonella poisoning outbreak.

on 2/12/2009 @2besure: Surely the U. S. Marshalls have barred those doors by now. I would not be at all surprised if their QA person tried to stop them from distributing the product and management wouldn't listen. These type things happen more often then people think. Unfortunately, QA will be blamed as they are suppose to be responsible for release.
