Step 1
Many of us are on a tight schedule in the mornings, between getting ready for work, or getting the kids off to school. Make a simple list of the things you absolutely need to do in the mornings, like showering, dressing yourself and the kids, preparing & eating breakfast and getting the kids ready for school or daycare. When you have your list ready you can make your plan. Take out the things that you do not "need" to do in the mornings, like reading the newspaper (you can do this in the evening) or maybe you can switch doing certain things to the night before or ask your signifigant other to pickup a certain extra chore for you each morning (like cleaning the cat litter box)
-
Step 2
Prepare the night before. Something I do is to lay out what I'm going to wear the next day. This avoids me rummaging through the closest to decide what to wear last minute. Check what the weather will be, and choose an outfit. I hang mine up on the hook on the back of the door.
-
Step 3
Have the kids get their backpacks ready for the next day & pack their lunches at night instead of the morning. Make pre-packed veggie snacks in baggies to be able to add them quickly to their lunch bags. We have an assigned area in the foyer for each family member. This allows a space to put backpacks, briefcases, shoes, etc so it'll all be easily accessable the next morning. No more "Honey, where's my...." or "Mom, I can't find my....."
-
Step 4
Sometimes this is easier said than done, but if it's possible, wake the kids up a few minutes earlier. We find that waking the kids up 10-15 minutes earlier every day helps.
-
Step 5
Don't skip breakfast or eat on the run. To have a healthy balanced diet, choose healthy cereals or oatmeals. Breakfast is a very important meal to get you going for the day.
