Losing 1 pound a week is a goal of many dieters and can lead to healthy weight loss that is more easily sustainable than weight loss that occurs over a rapid period of time. Read below for tips on how to lose one pound a week. While the results are not guaranteed - weight loss depends in part on genetic factors and metabolism, following a healthier diet and a moderate exercise plan can lead to weight loss and a healthier outlook in 2009.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Eat more vegetables, especially leafy greens. Look for highly nutritious vegetables that include vitamins A, E, and K to improve your diet.

  2. Step 2

    Eat leaner proteins. Look for organic meats or meats that come from animals raised without antibiotics or hormones. Legumes and other proteins can be substituted for meats. Consider increasing your intake of lentils, black beans, and other healthy beans and seeds.

  3. Step 3

    Eat less sugar. Slowly reduce the amount of sugar that you include in your diet. This can involve adding less sugar to foods you prepare and avoided processed foods that have a high sugar content.

  4. Step 4

    Drink water and teas. Replace sugar- and carbohydrate-laden sodas with water and teas. Substitute honey for sugar if you use sweeteners in your tea. Herbal and green teas may contribute to weight loss.

  5. Step 5

    When possible, walk more. Even walking small amounts over multiple periods throughout the day can contribute to increasing your exercise and improving your chances for successful weight loss.
