Things You'll Need:
- Chicken
- Olive Oil
- Chicken Bouillon or Stock
- Carrots
- Corn
- Green Beans (any style)
- Celery Seed or cooked Celery
- Bay Leaves
- Ground Sage or Oregano
- A medium size onion
- Minced Garlic
- Baking Powder
- Salt
-
Step 1
Onions SautaingIn a large pot coat the bottom with olive oil. Finely chop your onion and add to the pot. Sauté over medium heat. Cut your chicken into about 1 inch cubes. Once your onion has turned a clear, yellowish color add your chicken and about 2tsp minced garlic. Allow the chicken to cook thoroughly.
-
Step 2
Open and drain the vegetables. If using chicken bouillon add 2 large bouillon cubes(I use Knorr brand) and 6 cups water. If using chicken stock add 6 cups chicken stock instead of bouillon and water. Also add 3 bay leaves and the vegetables. Add 2tsp sage and 1 tsp celery seed. In a cup mix 1/3 cup flour and 1 cup water and mix well. Stir into soup. It should turn into like a stew, if still to thin mix more flour and water and add. After adding the flour some of the flavor may be lost, add seasonings to taste to get back the flavor.
-
Step 3
Yum, lets eat.In a bowl mix 1/3 cup flour, 2tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/3 cup milk, and 4 tbsp of vegetable oil. Mix together until it starts to look like biscuit dough. Dumplings can be seasoned with extra sage or parsley. Bring stew down to a simmer, not boiling. Add by spoonful to the stew. Try to make about 2 dumplings for each person eating. After adding dumplings put the lid on and DO NOT REMOVE! for at least 10 minutes. After 10 minutes remove lid and insert a toothpick into center dumpling, if clean, they are done and its time to eat.
