BRINGING YOUR BOOK TO LIFE FOR YOUR READERS
BRINGING YOUR BOOK TO LIFE FOR YOUR READERS

You can create a buzz for your book just by being a little dramatic! I've done this at my booksignings and people warmed up to me asking questions and taking a real interest in my craft.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Boldness
  • Creativity
  • An actor's heart
  • A few basic props for your book title
  1. Step 1

For an author a booksigning is part of the package. We must meet and greet our public. We've al heard of the usual ways to punch up our sales through offering free gifts, having a sales promotion, or a giveaway, but have you ever thought of having a performance based on your book?

  2. Step 2

For fiction writers you can pick a portion of the book that has real drama or humor to it. Make sure the main character is the center of the plot. If your book is in first person, you can dress like the character.

  3. Step 3

For third person books, you can create the scene in which the drama/humor takes place. i.e. your main character is walking down a street in New York City when he/she runs into an old flame where dialogue breaks out. Use a large poster of the City as backdrop, then pace back and forth while reading the part leading to the meeting, when the meeting occurs go into dialogue mode playing both parts.

  4. Step 4

My novel, Treasures in Clay Vessels is written in first person. Nellie is an eccentric middle aged woman who is telling the reader about her traumatic childhood. I dress like Nellie and tell the audience her story. This can work for non-fiction as well, suppose you are selling a book about knitting scarfs. You can bring some samples and have a knitting class while you sell books.

  5. Step 5

If you stretch your imagination you can think of lots of things to broaden the scope of the signing so people hang around and begin to see that your book might be a good purchase for them.

    Good luck and happy booksigning!
