Instructions

    • 1
Knob and screw showing correct screw length

      Preparation:
Purchase knobs (check drawer thickness for length of screw needed, a good rule of thumb would be the thickness of the drawer plus 1/8- 1/4 inch).

    • 2
Knob with thumb tack putty affixed

Affix a piece of thumb tack putty to knob for trial locations.

    • 3
Cabinets showing trial locations for knobs (it is better to try several locations then decide once!)

Lay out a couple of knobs on the doors to help determine the best installation position on cabinets. (Hint: Make sure that your spouse/others are in agreement!)

    • 4
Location jig in position for drilling

Measure distance from the knob to the side and bottom of the door and write this down for helping locate all knobs correctly along the way.

    • 5

Using a location and drilling jig (see jig eHow) or place a small piece of masking tape in the approximate location of where the knob will be installed.

    • 6
      Measuring location for mounting hole

Measure the distance from the side and bottom of the door and mark the spot for drilling. (skip this step if using a location and drilling jig)

    • 7

Using a center punch lightly tap with a hammer to aid in drilling the hole. (skip this step if using a location and drilling jig)

    • 8
Drilling hole using location and drill jig

Drill hole through the door making sure to keep the drill perpendicular to the cabinet. (the drilling jig really is helpful in insuring this)

    • 9
Attaching the knob to the door, you are DONE!

Insert screw in to hole and place knob. Start slowly (if using a cordless screw driver, you do not want to cross thread the knob) screw the knob on tightly

Tips & Warnings

  • Always double check your locations, once you drill a hole you own it!

  • If your screws are a little long, add a washer for a spacer

  • A good rule of thumb for locations is to center the knob in the vertical panel of the door and 1 + 1/2 the width of the panel up from the bottom (or top) of the door.

  • Be careful when drilling through the door so you do not drill into the cabinet framing.
