It's hard to go anywhere on the road without having a "run-in" with an idiot driver. Here are some tips to keeping your cool when behind the wheel, and keep your stress levels in check.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Allow yourself plenty of time. If you only allow yourself 20 minutes for 20 miles, you are NOT allowing yourself enough time to get there. You must anticipate the unexpected. Traffic happens.

  2. Step 2

Listen to music or books on CD. If traffic has got you down, there's nothing you can do about it, so sit back and catch up on your favorite novel. You can check a lot of discs out at the library now, so it doesn't even have to cost you any money.

  3. Step 3

Be PATIENT! You are going to have cars that cut into your lane, tailgate you, not use their signal, and violate every other minor vehicle code or pet peeve rule you have. Try not to let their actions effect your day.

  4. Step 4

When in doubt, use your gift of imagination. If another car comes up along the side of the freeway, making their own lane, cutting in and out of traffic, and basically driving like an idiot, then just assume there is something very important they must get to. Maybe his wife is in the back seat getting ready to go into labor. Or maybe she has a sick child at home that she must rush home to. Better yet, imagine that the person has got to get to a bathroom NOW. Anyone driving that badly must have to "go". Right? Think about it next time. It will help.

Tips & Warnings
  • Go to your local library and check out a new book on CD
  • Give yourself plenty of time
  • Avoid letting the other drivers affect YOU.
