Deviantart is a great resource for amateur artists and writers.
Deviantart is a great resource for amateur artists and writers.

Deviantart is great resource for the artist, sculptor, or writer who just wants to get their work seen.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Submit your quality work as deviations- this means neat lines on unlined paper, without phone numbers, stains or thumbprints on it. Everything else should go in Scraps. Try to make them high quality scans, instead of webcam photos. If you're a writer, this means that your work should be spell checked and edited before going into your deviations.

  2. Step 2

Sort your work into the proper columns- this means it's more likely to be seen by people who will like it, and therefore is more likely to be noticed and linked to.

  3. Step 3

Join clubs. These are a great place to get some constructive criticism, a little publicity, and some good company. There are clubs for just about every genre, and you're bound to find one where you feel at home.

  4. Step 4

Find newsletters and other periodicals, such as journal features, that cater to your genre, and- if they allow it- send them links to some of your deviations. I've been noticed for several fantasy-themed collections.

  5. Step 5

Do tribute work to some of your favorite authors on Deviantart. I started doing this for the fun of it, but some of my tributes are my most viewed deviations.

  6. Step 6

Update your journal, and don't be afraid to say a little about your recent deviations in it. This way, your watchers will have an idea of what you're on about, especially if you're a writer. It'll increase Deviation views.

Tips & Warnings
  • Deviantart is for fun! Don't worry too much if you don't get seen.
  • Remember, once you put something on the internet, you really can't get it back. Watermark your stuff at the very least, if you plan on selling it, but be careful what you post.
