Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • ¼ cup butter, softened
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup milk
  1. Step 1

Cream 1/4 cup butter, 1/2 tsp. salt, 2 tsp. vanilla, and 1 cup powdered sugar in mixer bowl until light and fluffy. Do your best to get out all the lumps. **Note** Make sure that the butter has been softened when you start making the frosting. If it is not softened, your frosting may turn out lumpy, and nobody wants that. ***

  2. Step 2

Add remaining powdered sugar alternately with milk, mixing well after each addition. (Add a little bit of powdered sugar, then a little bit of milk, then a little bit of powdered sugar, then a little bit of milk. Continue this process until all the powdered sugar and milk is gone.)

  3. Step 3

Beat until smooth and creamy. When beating, start out on a lower speed. Don't go to full speed automatically.

Tips & Warnings
  • In order to gain the desired consistency, you may need to adjust the amount of milk and powdered sugar that you are using in the recipe. This is why you are adding a little bit of each at a time, then mixing well after each addition. This lets you gauge the consistency based on your own personal preference.
  • This frosting goes well on any white or yellow cake!
  • Do not add the milk all at once. Your frosting may be too runny if you do not alternate powdered sugar and milk.
