If you are in the market for a new home theater surround sound system, you will want to do your homework first. There is more to picking out the perfect surround sound setup than you might think...

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Money
  1. Step 1

First take into consideration the size room you are planning on buying a home theater system for. Also take into consideration the acoustics of the room.

  2. Step 2

If space is limited, or you would like to conceal the speakers, consider buying in-wall or in-ceiling speakers. Many in ceiling and in wall audio speakers have the ability of being able to adjust the driver towards the listening environment, so even if your seating arrangement is not centered based on your speaker location, you can adjust the driver to "fire" towards the direction of your seating for optimal listening.

  3. Step 3

When selecting speakers, take into consideration the material the cones of the speakers are made out of. Higher end speakers have kevlar or a poly based cone, stay away from speakers with paper cones, their sound will easily distort and does not provide good sound reproduction.

  4. Step 4

Determine what type of surround sound environment you want, be it dolby digital 5.1 or 7.1, THX, etc... you'll need to determine what type of receiver that will meet your needs based on your speaker selection as well if you are "building" your own system.

  5. Step 5

Cost will be the only thing stopping you in creating the perfect home theater surround sound system. Create a budget, and stick to it, search the web for the best deals around on the home theater equipment you are looking for.
