My Grandma taught me to make these carnations from facial tissue when I was a little girl.
You can use facial tissue, or for bigger flowers use wrapping tissue.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • facial tissue or wrapping tissue
  • chenille wire or florist wire
  • Scissors
  1. Step 1

    Fan out around the center.

  5. Step 5
    separate layers

    separate layers

Gently separate the layers easing each layer to the center. If you're using double layer facial tissue you'll have four layers. At this point your flower will look more like a camellia and you can leave it as is or progress to the next step for a carnation look.

  6. Step 6
tear edges for a carnation look

Gather the flower to the center and, holding it tightly, tear our bits of tissue from the edges. If you're using wrapping tissue, you can do it this way, or snip the edges with pinking shears.

  7. Step 7

Viola! Your finished product. Unfortunately the facial tissue now days is easier on the nose, but not as sturdy as the ones my Grandma taught me with so this one's a little rough looking.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you want bigger flowers use wrapping tissue paper. The strips should be twice as long as they are wide.
  • Have a waste basket handy. Step 6 can get messy.

on 4/1/2009 HI chocolateoo. To add a stem, just wind the wire with florist tape. You can tuck in some silk leaves around the base as you begin to wrap it too.
