Here's how to choose the perfect date movie. Not everyone enjoys the stereotypical boy meets girl date movie, but not many every date would survive a trip to serious, depressing drama. Here's how to pick a date movie that's entertaining and enjoyable.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Read online reviews from multiple sources. Visit a review site like rottentomatoes.com that lists multiple reviews from different highly regarded reviewers. The short review in a daily newspaper is no real indication of the quality of a movie.

  2. Step 2

Pick a movie that seems appropriate to your relationship. Don't pick a marriage themed movie for a first date. Be wary of overly childish movies. The best "first date" movies should at least carry some common thread of interest from both perspectives of the relationship.

  3. Step 3

Your movie choice should meet your date in the middle. If you are a guy, don't fall into the trap of taking your girlfriend to see a sophomoric college humor film. If you are a girl, be wary of movies with princess or Elizabethan themes. You risk alienating your prospective date.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure that the movie you want to see is playing at at the theater you plan to attend.
  • Never watch or attend a movie that either person has already seen. This devalues the shared experience of the movie.
  • Most movie theaters have at least two or three date movies playing at any one time. Choose a film that you and your date can bond over. If you want to appear sophisticated, a non-violent, Oscar nominated film can be a sure winner. The older and more confident you are, in general, the more sophisticated the film should be.
