This cocktail has nothing to do with the lovable cartoon characters (unless they were named for the drink). Contrary to popular belief, it it also not related to the famous bartender, Jerry Thomas. Created by Pierce Egan in 1820, the idea behind the drink was to help publicize his book "Life in London, or The Day and Night Scenes of Jerry Hawthorn Esq. and his Elegant Friend Corinthian Tom". Basically, it is a variation of eggnog and is a popular Christmastime drink. However, you don't have to wait for the holidays as it can be enjoyed all year round.
