How to Bathe Your Newborn

When you first bring your newborn home, the nurses at the hospital probably told you to give the baby a sponge bath until the umbilical cord stump falls off.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • towels
  • washcloth
  • lotion
  • clothes
  • diaper
  • baby soap
  • disposable washcloth (optional)
  • rubbing alchohol
  • cotton swab
  1. Step 1

    Get everything you need and put it where your going to be giving the baby a bath. (See Things You'll Need)on the front page.

  2. Step 2

    Lay the baby on a towel and wet and soap her hair. Then, move on to washing her face. Immediately dry your baby off.

  3. Step 3

    Take off her shirt and then wash and rinse her chest and back, being careful not to touch the umbilical cord. Dry off, and lotion if desired. Dress her in a new shirt.

  4. Step 4

    Next thing is to remove her bottoms and diaper. Again wash and rinse. Lotion, diaper and dress your baby.

  5. Step 5

    You can take a cotton swab or ball and dip it in rubbing alchohol when finished and dab the umbilical stump
