How to Tell the Difference Between a Portuguese Water Dog and a Labradoodle
The Barack Obama family has been in the process of choosing a family dog. They have narrowed it down to two dogs. Both breeds are hypoallergenic. Either the Portuguese water dog or the Labradoodle will be the first family dog.

1
Find out the lineage of the dog. A Labradoodle is a mixed breed: a cross between a poodle and a Labrador retriever. The Portuguese water dog is a purebred.
-
2
Weigh the dog. A standard size Labradoodle can weigh up to 80 pounds. A Portuguese water dog can weigh up to 60 pounds.
-
-
3
Look at their coats. Both have non-shedding coats. The Labradoodle's coat can be either curly or fleecy. The Portuguese water dog has either a wavy or curly coat.
-
4
Check the dog's color. The colors can be similar. The Labradoodles can be black, apricot, red, chocolate, silver, or cream. The Portuguese water dog can be black (entirely or silver tipped), black and white, or brown. Portuguese water dogs may also have white legs or chests.
