Brown rice is a healthy alternative to potatoes and pasta. I always though it was boring and by itself, it is. But there are many ways to make it, and here is one way I usualy make it. This recipe is easy to make, your family will love it.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 cup of brown rice
  • 3 TB of wild rice
  • 1 tsp of butter
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 1/4 cups of chicken broth
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 2 shallots (diced)
  1. Step 1

Melt butter in a large pot on low heat. Allow to melt. Now take your shallots and gently place them into the butter.

  2. Step 2

Allow to cook for about 2 minutes. Now pour in your chicken broth.

  3. Step 3

Drop your bay leaves, wild rice, salt, pepper and brown rice into the pot. Cover and allow to simmer for 45 minutes. Do not take the cover off until 45 minutes are over, when it's done fluff with a fork. If any liquid remains stir and allow to cook for another 2-5 minutes.

  4. Step 4

When the rice is done, fold into a pretty platter or bowl. Serve along side of fish, meat, or eat by itself. Add a bit of parsley for garnish or red onion to top it off.
