The best protection from pet scratches to hardwood flooring is to cover the exposed area of hardwood. Cover your floors with area rugs. You will still be able to enjoy the hardwoods as they will be partially seen around the edges of the room, however, you will eliminate the wear and tear to the high traffic areas.

Another option for covering the floors is to use large plastic office mats that are used for under rolling chairs. They are not the most attractive options, however, by placing them in high traffic areas, such as right in front of the doorway or in an area your pet plays will keep eliminate some of the wear your floors might receive.

Tips & Warnings
When trimming a pet's nails, make sure you do not cut too close to the quick of the nail. This will cause severe pain and also bleeding to their claws. If you are not sure how to do this correctly, ask a professional groomer or your vet to show you how to do this without harming your pet.
