Things You'll Need:
- A deck of cards with 8's-2's and jokers removed from the deck
- A piece of paper to keep score
- A computer if you prefer online play
-
Step 1
Grab 3 of your friends and gather around the table with your favorite beverage if you like. Remove all of the cards numbered 2-8 as well as the 2 or 4 jokers depending on your deck. Divide yourself up in 2 teams of 2 and grab that sheet of paper to keep score. Euchre is a game of trick taking. Each round has 5 possible tricks that can be taken. One suit per round is ordered up as the trump suit for that round. For those that don't know, trump cards automatically take the trick as long as a higher value of trump isn't played. The value of the cards in Euchre are as followed: J of Trump Suit, J of same color of the trump suit, (for example if J of Trump is diamonds then J of same color is hearts), A, K, Q, J, 10, 9.

Step 2
Deal out 5 cards face down to every player and place the remaining 4, also called " The Kitty", face down in the middle of the table. Turn the top card in the kitty face up. At this point the dealer will ask each player if they want to pick up, or "order up" the kitty card naming the trump suit. The dealer picks up the actual card and then discards one of his other cards as he will now have 6 cards. If nobody orders up the suit then that card is turned face down and the dealer then asks each player to name his own suit. If all pass again then all of the cards are picked up and a re-deal takes place. NOTE: There is a variation called "stick-the-dealer" which forces the dealer to pick a suit if it comes back around a second time instead of doing a re-deal.

Step 3
In order to score points the team that orders up the suit card must take at least 3 or 4 of the 5 tricks. In doing so your team is awarded 1 point. If your team takes 5 tricks then you are awarded 2 points, however if you fail to take at least 3 tricks you are "euchred" or "set" and the other team is awarded 2 points. If you feel you have a strong hand during the order up process you have the option to "go alone". By doing so your partner and all of his cards sit out that round and you attempt to take the tricks alone. The reward of going alone is if you take all 5 tricks your team will receive 4 points. If you fail you will still receive your 1 point as long as you take at least 3 tricks. Game play will continue until 1 team has made 10 points.
