How to Find Federal School Codes for a FAFSA
Students interested in applying for federally-funded financial assistance must fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). A section of this application asks for the Federal School Codes for schools you may attend.

1
Use a search engine and type in FAFSA, or use the link in the Resources section below, to go to the FAFSA website.
-
2
In section 1, "Before Beginning a FAFSA", you will find a bulleted list of items. On this list is "Search for School Codes". This link will take you to the page you need to find your school's Federal School Code for your FAFSA.
-
-
3
Before you search for any Federal School Codes, you need to select the school year during which you will be applying any granted federal aid that you may receive. This is important to do, as that the Federal School Codes, as well as school names, may change from year to year.
-
4
You may then select if you would like to search for, or verify, a Federal School Code. Select "search" and click on the "Next" arrow.
-
5
You will be directed to a page where you will need to input the state or country the school is in, as well as the city. You may also input the name of the school, but this is not necessary. You may also choose how you want your search results listed, but you do not need to do anything here either. By default, it will list the schools by name. Click "Next".
-
6
You should be presented with a list of schools, and their corresponding Federal School Codes for your FAFSA, that match your search criteria. If you did not find the school you were looking for, you can click "Previous" to go back one step, or "Next" to start a new search.
