Things You'll Need:
- Food/ drinks
- Pinata
- Decorations
- Party favors
-
Step 1
Pick a date for your party and decide how many guests you will invite. Create a budget for your party, and go shopping for decorations and food 3 days to a week in advance. Create a guest list and invite your guests on Mexican fiesta theme invitations.
-
Step 2
Plan the menu for the party. Great ideas are: a big pot of chili (served from the stove or in a crock pot), a make-your-own nachos stand (you can even use some of the chili!), tacos or burritos (this can be a make-your-own option, too), chips and salsa... there are so many options! Just search "mexican menu" on your favorite search engine for more ideas.
-
Step 3
Decide whether or not to serve alcohol at your party. Regardless, have ingredients on hand to make margaritas and pina coladas (virgin or alcoholic). Make sure to have plenty of salt, whipped creme, and jarred cherries as garnishes in stock. You can find inexpensive plastic margarita glasses at most party supply stores. These are usually strong enough to be rewashed for multiple uses. Don't forget fun straws and drink umbrellas!
-
Step 4
Buy a pinata and fill it with candies or little bottles of tequila (wrapped in tissue paper to prevent breakage). Set it up outside and remember to have a baseball bat or other stick available for striking purposes.
-
Step 5
The day of, clean your house and set up your food/ snacks/ beverage stations. Have plenty of paper products on hand and set up trash cans so that guests can clean up as they finish eating/ drinking. Put on Mexican music and set up the pinata. Put up any decorations.
-
Step 6
Don't forget the birthday cake! To keep the Mexican theme, pick a cake with cacti or chili peppers. Remember to pick up candles.
-
Step 7
Wear your ridiculously oversized sombrero during the party. Have fun!
