Step 1
Your on your way home from work, your stomach is grumbling and your kids are ready to chow down at McDonalds, 3 blocks away from your house. You’re just as hungry as they are but don't want to attempt a 1,000-calorie dinner after what you have alreaydy comsumed today! Trouble is, there really doesn’t seem to be any healthier options anywhere within a ten mile radius. Do you refuse yourself the fast food, choosing to starve yourself as they indulge, or do you give in and dive into a super greasy double bacon cheeseburger with french fries right along with them? Neither! These days, you thankfully have plenty of healthy menu options at most fast-food places. We can teach ourselves how to navigate the "shark infested waters of temptation" at fast food restaurants.

Step 2
Look for the low-fat spots. Choose food chains that offer low-fat items like grilled chicken salads, baked fish or baked potatoes. Wendy’s offers a baked potato with 1 pack of Sour Cream and Chives and it is only 5 grams of fat! If you simply CAN'T resist Burger King, a BK BROILER® Chicken Sandwich without mayo is only 8 grams of fat!

Step 3
Downsize NOT upsize. Beware the super sized portions. Go for a small child size hamburger rather than a turbo charged replica of the "$8.00 restaurant specialty burger" which will save you $$ AND unwanted fat and calories Always opt out of the biggie fries. A small fry will do just fine (no fries is best!). Try ordering off the $1.00 discount menu at places like McDonald’s, Burger etc. It’s a dollar cheeseburger (hold everything but the pickle) and dollar fries. I save money and calories. YAY!

Step 4
Try and go topless!! Come on.. you know you ALWAYS wanted to do that in college... :) Leave off the bacon, cheese, mayonnaise, dressings and other high calorie, high sugar sauces. I found an awesome website for low fat fast food guides http://www.lowfatlifestyle.com/fastfood.htm
