Things You'll Need:
- Narrow planter for herbs.
- Protective tray.
- Potting soil and fertilizer.
- Herbs, transplant plant or seeds.
-
Step 1
Start by choosing the right planter to start your herb garden. Look for narrow planter that is around the same length as your window. You may also use small separate containers for each herb you grow. You will also need a tray underneath you planter to catch water coming from the drainage holes.
-
Step 2
Check the planter to make sure there is drainage holes. If no holes you will need to drill one hole per a container or one for every foot in length.
-
Step 3
Fill planter with potting soil, then stir in a small amount of granular fertilizer.
-
Step 4
Then you may plant your herbs using transplants or seeds. The best herbs to use in a window seal garden is chives, rosemary, basil, sage, thyme, chervil, and fern leaf dill.
