Stop a Nose Bleed

Nose bleeds can often be attributed to dry air, which causes mucous membranes in the nose to become more susceptible to drying and cracking. To avoid nose bleeds altogether consider investing in a humidifier and do not do anything to irritate the membrane (such as blowing your nose to hard or picking your nose.) If you can’t avoid a nose bleed read below for tips on how to stop it.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Keep you head elevated above your heart to lessen the bleeding.

  2. Step 2

Using your thumb and index finger, pinch your nose below the bridge, lean forward and let the blood drain into a tissue. (Do not lean your head back, this allows for the blood to flow through your throat to you esophagus and stomach which can result in choking or nausea/vomiting.)

  3. Step 3

Use a cold compress on the bridge of your nose to constrict blood vessels and slow the bleeding.

  4. Step 4

If you experience reoccurring nose bleeds, faintness or dizziness, make sure to consult your physician.
