Square-up and properly align for the golf shot

Proper alignment(squaring-up) for the golf shot is a process of critical importance in the golf swing. Proper alignment and being square to the target line are what allows all the movements of the golf swing to work in harmony.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Stand 10-15 feet behind the ball and find an object in front of the ball that is on the same line as the target. Preferably, the object should not be more than 2-3 feet in front of the ball. It could be a leaf, a stick, a divot, etc.,etc.

  2. Step 2

Set the club behind the ball so that is in alignment with the object.

  3. Step 3

Without moving the club, take your stance by placing both feet together imagining a line running from the bottom edge of the club and continuing between your feet. You will then be square to the bottom edge of the club face which is hopefully still aligned from the ball to the object, to the target. Simply make sure that your knees, hips and shoulders, are square with the weight balanced over the arches of your feet.

Tips & Warnings
  • You will need to practice in order to develop the feeling of being square to the bottom of the club face. The best way to do this is on a tiled floor with straight grout lines.
