Tired of your white dog being dingy yellow? Try this semi-old fashioned recipe for the brightest white dog shampoo.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Liquid Ivory soap, the dish variety.
  • Mrs. Smith's Blueing (found in the laundry section of the supermarket)
  1. Step 1

Mix your Ivory soap and blueing in a plastic shampoo bottle with a lid. 5 parts Ivory to 1 part blueing. Shake well. You can store leftover mixture as you would any soap.

  2. Step 2

Wet your dog, apply the mixture and lather well. Be sure not to use near eyes, mouth or nose as it is not tear-free. Use liberally near areas of concern. Usually feet, tail etc. Rinse immediately and do not allow to dry on your dog. Blueing does stain if left too long. Make sure you are rinsing all the soap off of your dog to prevent irritated skin from soap residue.

  3. Step 3

Repeat as needed to keep your dog shiny white! Dog bath wipes, found in most stores carrying pet supplies, can be a useful tool in keeping your dog from aquiring stains on his coat to begin with. make a habit of wiping your dog's feet after walks and wiping around his nose after eating. Preventing stains is often easier than getting them out.

Tips & Warnings
  • For tear stains on the face, look for food additives containing tetracyclene sold at most pet and grooming stores. There are many formulas specifically made to reduce tear stains from the inside out. There are also formulas made to reduce tear staining on the coat as an outer treatment. These cn be found at most pet stores.
  • Also you can apply cornstarch to stains to lessen their appearance. This also applies to reddish stains on the feet or anywhere your dog tends to lick often. These stains can also benefit from the food additives containing tetracyclene.
  • Do not apply soap mixture to dog's face.
  • Do not leave soap mixture on dog as it temporarily will stain him/her purple.
