How to Do Chia Pet Science

Do Chia Pet Science

I begin each year with a garden thematic unit-and to help the kids understand how plants grow, we do "Chia Pet Science." It is also a contest to see who can keep their Chia Pet alive the longest throughout the year, so it's a great way to teach responsibility. The kids absolutely adore this activity, and the Chia Pets make a very nice decoration for the classroom. Here are my tips for teaching the science of Chia Pets.

Instructions

    • 1

Have each child bring in a Chia Pet. They can be purchased at your local Target or larger drug store.

    • 2

Have each child name their pet, follow the directions and apply the seeds to their pet.

    • 3

Have the kids draw a picture of their pet each day, so that they can track the progress of their pet.

    • 4

See how long the kids can keep their Chia Pets alive. Have a prize for the student that can keep their Chia Pet alive the longest.
