Step 1
BINDING- A window shade will bind when it fits too tight between the brackets. This can easily be fixed by flatten each bracket slightly with a hammer. Worse case you may need to shorten the pin slightly.
-
Step 2
FALLING SHADE- A shade will fall out of the bracket when they are too far apart. This can be fixed by placing a thin wood shim under either bracket or both. If you don’t have a wood shim, you can use cardboard instead.
-
Step 3
SHADE NOT CATCHING- A shade will not stay in place, when pulled down, because the pawls or catches do not engage in the notches of the ratchet. This can be fixed by cleaning the area and lubricating with graphite.
-
Step 4
WOBBLING SHADE- A bent roller pin will cause a shade to wobble. Remove shade from bracket and straighten pin with pliers.
-
Step 5
IMPROPER WINDING- If a shade will not wind up properly, remove it from the brackets and increase the spring tension by rolling the shade up by hand. Place shade back on bracket and test.
If shade winds up too fast, then remove from brackets and unwind it a little by hand and replace and test. -
Step 6
BROKEN ROLLER SPRING- If you can not fix the tension in a shade, and then you will need to replace the shade.
