Starting a business is never easy, but there are even more difficulties to fight during a recession. It won't be easy, but it is possible to profitable if you follow the right steps.

    First of all, you obviously must have some money to start your own business. Starting a business can vary in expense greatly depending on what kind of business you are starting, but it will never be without any cost, so you must have some money.

  2. Step 2

    Next you need to know what you can sell. This may well be the most important step, especially during a down economy. Your new business ideas must be suitable to the current economy. Selling your business items in a recession will be very difficult if you don't pick the right kind of things to sell. For example, selling healthcare items or services is a much wiser move than selling a discretionary item such as electronics or gadgets. Sell something that people need no matter the economic state.

  3. Step 3

    Know your competitors. You have to understand what kind of competition is out there and make sure there is room for you in the industry. In certain areas there may be too much competition for a certain item, while in other areas there may be little competition.

    Have a way to set your business apart from the rest. If you want to sell your business to consumers you must know what kind of ways you can provide them a better experience or product than the other competitors can. Selling your business to new consumers is a HUGE key.

    Make sure you have sufficient funding for a slow start to business. Understand that in a weak economy it may take some time for your business to get off the ground. Advertise and get your name out there and have alternate ideas to get things moving.
