How to select a gym and the right gym equipment for your weight loss goals.

  1. Step 1

    Consult your local chamber of commerce for possible recommendations so that you are able to make a well informed decision about your investments. Gym membership can be expensive so it is important that you make the right decision for your needs.

  2. Step 2

    Set a date to make a visit at each gym and ask for a tour of each facility that you are interested in joining. Bring a note pad and pen with you to jot down your likes and dislikes about each facility. Make sure that when you take a tour that you consult about prices, any discounts, and any additional fee's such as the service of a personal trainer.

  3. Step 3

    Evaluate each facility and make your decision based on your observations at each site. Were people friendly? Was the facility clean, do they provide trainers? What are their hours and do they provided child care?

  • Track your progress daily either online with a free site such as www.sparkpeople.com. Don't let the gym intimidate you everyone there was a first timer as well as some point,and remember each day you go the stronger mentally, emotionally and physically you will become.
  • Check with your doctor before starting any exercise routine
