Step 1
The first step to catch a football is to practice. You need at least one other person to assist you with this. You will also need a football, any size will do. Stand about 10 to 15 yards apart from each other and have the other person throw you the ball and you throw it back to them.
-
Step 2
Once you have someone to practice with you can begin learning the proper technique to catch the football. The proper way to catch the ball is with your hands, not your chest. You want to begin with your hands out in front of you. Out-stretch your fingers, and have your thumb and index fingers almost touching to where they make an "O."
-
Step 3
Have the other person throw the ball to you above your waste, and follow the ball with your eyes into your hands, concentrating on the tip of the ball. Holding your hands the way told in the above step, you should catch the ball on one of the ends, this is where the football is smallest and easiest to catch and possess.
-
Step 4
Remember never to take your eyes off of the ball until it is secured in both of your hands. Since you will be getting hit when playing football on a team, you can also tuck the ball against your chest once you have caught it to help you become a better player so you do not lose control of the ball when hit by a defender.
-
Step 5
Throw the ball back to the other person and repeat all steps until you both are ready to go inside.
-
Step 6
The more you practice the better you will become at catching the football.
