Cut Wood Blinds
Cut Wood Blinds

Most wood blinds and some plastic blinds can be trimmed a few inches to fit your window. This can save you a good bit of money on custom fit blinds.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tape
  • Clamps
  • Hack saw or Chop saw
  • Sand paper
  • pencil
  1. Step 1

Measure the inside of the frame of the window you want to hang the blinds in. You will want to subtract about a 1/2" from this number. For example, if you have a 32" window you will want your blinds to be 31 1/2" long.

  2. Step 2

Clamp the blinds shut to hold them in place. Measure the total width of the blinds. Subtract the width of the window from the width of the blinds and divide that number by 2. This will be the amount you will want to trim off of each side of the blinds. For example if the blinds are 34" wide and the window is 32" wide you would want to trim off 1 1/4" from each side (34-32 - .5 = 2.5; 2.5 /2 = 1.25).

  3. Step 3

Measure the distance you determined in the previous step (1.25" in the example) in from each end of the blinds and place a piece of masking tape along the full length of the blinds.

  4. Step 4

Remove the end caps from the blinds (usually at the top and bottom pieces).

  5. Step 5

Use a chop saw or hack saw to cut the blinds along the masking tape.

  6. Step 6

Use the sand paper to smooth any rough edges. Replace the end caps and your blinds are ready to hang.
