Step 1
You can find the site in the resources below. When you go to the main page you can either type in a name or use the advanced name finder.
The advanced name finder has the most unique categories, with titles like: “Nicknames,” “Saints,” “Passing Fashions of the Past,” “Non-standard Spelling,” and even “Esoteric/Highly Unusual Names.”
You have the option of selecting parts of names, and even letters. There are also categories which range from “rare” to “very popular.” -
Step 2
Once you click on a name, the site will guide you to the first tab: “Namipedia.”
This option will give you the origins and the meaning of the name. On the same page are user generated possible sibling names, and a user-generated query, where you can rate if the name sounds: “Smart,” “Sexy,” “Friendly,” “Creative,” “Strong,” “Young,” or “Sophisticated.” -
Step 3
The next stop is: “Namevoyager”. Here you can track the name’s trend from the 1880’s to the present on a graph. If you move your cursor over the graph, the name and year will pop up.
-
Step 4
The most fascinating part of the site is the “Namemapper.” In the “Namemapper” window you enter a name and on a map of the USA, you can view the popularity of the name from state to state.
There is a sliding cursor on the top of the map from the years of 1960 to the present. As you slide the cursor, the states fade or darken from a rose color to a light pink (for girls) and a dark blue to a light blue (for boys). -
Step 5
The site is a great resource and has compiled all the information in a very charming and user-friendly environment. A novel help in your search for the most unique baby name.
