After you download and familiarize yourself with this free application, you will be able to find your favorite site updates easily and quickly.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mozilla Firefox free application Update Scanner. (Link below)
  • Mozilla Firefox browser, 3.0 and upward

Install Update Scanner. Once it is installed, you will find a small, upward pointing arrow, in the lower right of your screen, just above the digital clock on the task bar.

  2. Step 2

Once installed, to open the program, click the blue arrow above the clock, as seen in the image above. The application will open in a sidebar on the left side of the screen. At the top of the column, are the tools you use to customize the application.

  3. Step 3

Hover your mouse cursor over each icon (As seen in this picture) and you will get a descriptive pop up). There is also a scan button, allowing you to scan saved sites without waiting. A very cool way to save sites to be scanned is to hover your cursor over a page you want to scan daily, and click with the RIGHT mmouse button. A menu will pop up stating "Scan Page for Updates". At that point you will be asked how often you want the page to scan. For constantly updating sites, you may select the frequency you desire. For most sites, the "Once a day" selection is probably adequate.

This application will allow changes on a website to be higlighted in yellow, drawing your eye to the newest information. You can set the application to update according to your preferences.

Tips & Warnings
  • I have about 50 pages in my Update scanner. In the evening, I open the application to see which pages have been updated, and simply one click takes me to them!
  • Sometimes the page has been updated more than once before you get to it. Above the page itself, you will notice a link to "Current Page". This will refresh the page again to see the latest update.
  • Not all sites work well with this function, but most do. If you have a site that does not update with this application, you will have to use an RSS feed or subsscription. For me this works 99% of the time and I just ADORE this application!
