Juice your way to health!

Fasting is an extremely beneficial practice if done properly. But it must be done carefully, and it’s not for everyone. Please read the Tips and Warnings below! I have done more than one 7-day juice fast with amazing results, and I hope you will experience the wonderful benefits of fasting too. However, there are some important steps to take before you begin a fast in order to ease the transition.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Plenty of fresh drinking water.
  • Several pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables – whatever kind you like.
  • A juicer (optional – there are other ways to juice.)
  1. Step 1

Increase your intake of fresh fruits and vegetables at least three days before you begin your fast.

  2. Step 2

For at least two days before you begin your fast, replace one meal with fresh fruit and vegetable juice. This should be fresh juice, not canned or bottled fruit/veggie juices – these are processed and contain sugars and preservatives. These elements inhibit your fast.

  3. Step 3

Drink plenty of water during this time. This will help your body do a “pre-flush” and ease the transition into fasting. But don’t overdo it – too much water can lead to a potentially fatal imbalance called hyponatremia, aka water intoxication.

  4. Step 4

Get some exercise. Loosening up the muscles will help with toxin elimination later.

  5. Step 5

Prepare yourself mentally for the challenge ahead. Fasting is not easy, even for those of us with experience. Fully understand your purpose for fasting, such as body cleansing, weight loss, spiritual cleansing, or attempting to improve a medical condition such as arthritis.

  6. Step 6

Do some research on fasting, and read about others’ experiences. Post questions to forums – or to me!

  7. Step 7

Refer to my article “How to Do a Juice Fast for 7 Days” for detailed advice on what to do during your fast.

  8. Step 8

Refer to my article “How to Break a 7-Day Juice Fast” for detailed advice on how to wean yourself back to a normal diet after your fast. This is the most important part of the fast and should be done with great care

Tips & Warnings
  • Drink fresh fruit or vegetable juice within 24 hours of preparation.
  • Be ready for possible negative responses from friends and family. Unfortunately, fasting is often misunderstood and many people will respond with fear and unnecessary concern. If done properly and with a doctor’s consent, fasting is perfectly safe.

  • Refer to my article “How to Break a 7-Day Juice Fast” for detailed advice on how to wean yourself back to a normal diet.
  • Children, the elderly, and women who are pregnant or nursing should not fast. Fasting can be dangerous for people with diseases like diabetes. Consult your doctor before fasting.
  • Do not drink too much water, as this can lead to a potentially fatal imbalance called hyponatremia, aka water intoxication. Symptoms may include headache, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, frequent urination and mental disorientation.
