Tax payers can pay their Federal taxes for free with Free File. It's a service that the IRS offers to qualified taxpayers. The service makes it quick easy and not to mention cheap for taxpayers to file and pay their Federal taxes.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Assemble the necessary tax filing documents. It's easier to complete your taxes in a timely fashion if you have all of your supporting paperwork.

Go to the IRS website and access the free Free File page. See the link below or access the IRS.gov site and insert search term "free file." Since it is a service that is only available through the tax-filing season, it is only accessible from mid January through to the tax deadline of April 15th.

  3. Step 3

Decide whether or not you want to choose a company to help you prepare your taxes using Free File or have the Internal Revenue Service assist you in locating a company that will help you file your Federal taxes. If you have the IRS help you find a tax cut peril, you have to fill out a quick questionnaire.

  5. Step 5

Opt to complete your taxes without the online software help. If you know what you're doing and do not need help to file your taxes, you can choose the appropriate tax form and file your taxes online for free. This option is available for tax payers using form 1040, 1040EZ and 1040A.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use the Free File service 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
  • If you earned more than $56,000 you can still use the IRS e-file tax filing option.
