How to Run a Hockey Offense: Forward Crisscross

By eHow Sports & Fitness Editor

Rate: (0 Ratings)

This is a simple play meant to confuse the defense. Its trickery is in running an easy crisscross by two attacking forwards.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Hockey Pucks
  • Hockey Sticks

Step1
Start the play with a defenseman passing to the right wing.
Step2
Send the left wing from the board to center ice as he or she crosses the blue line.
Step3
Have your center crisscross the left wing by angling toward the boards as he or she leaves the neutral zone.
Step4
Instruct your left wing to skate behind the center and receive a pass from the right wing.
Step5
Send the left wing, at high speed, skating toward the net as the right wing crosses to the high slot.
Step6
Allow the left wing to take the shot.

Tips & Warnings

  • Initially leaving the right wing on his or her side helps for coverage if the play fails or the pass is poorly aimed.
  • Confusing the neutral zone in a hockey rink with that of a Star Trek role-playing game may lead to annihilation, Romulans or no.
  • If you have any condition that would impair or limit your ability to engage in physical activity, please consult a physician before attempting this activity. This information is not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice or treatment.

on 11/22/2005 Center carries, crosses w/LW; C & RW go to net; LW stays high in slot w/puck. Creates a 3-on-2 in diamond formation; gives puck carrier 2 passing options. Or after crossing, make another pass to RW, stay in diamond. Always give carrier 2 passing options.
