Things You'll Need:
- yarn in the three desired colors needed to match your fruit choice design
- crochet hook, size G
- Yarn needle, for weaving in ends and embroidering on seed design
-
Step 1
step 1You should have your colors picked out for the type of fruit slice you'd like to create. Begin with the light color, make a chain of 5 stitches. Then join the last stitch to the first stitch by bringing the yarn through the first stitch to form a ring.
-
Step 2
step 2Round/Row 1: Chain 3, work 11 double crochet stitches in the ring. Join the last stitch with the stitch at the top of the first stitch/chain.
-
Step 3
step 3Rounds/Rows 2 & 3: Chain 3, then do 2 double crochet stitches through the top loops of each stitch from the prior row, all the way around the circle. Join the first to the last stitch of the row as before.
-
Step 4
step 4Rounds/Rows 4, 5, 6: Chain 3, do 2 double crochet in same stitch (top loops of prior row). Then do 1 double crochet stitch in each of next 3 stitches (loops). Then 2 double crochet in next around. Then 1 double crochet in last remaining stitch. Join the first to the last stitch of the row as before. At the end of row 6, clip and tie on the white yarn.
-
Step 5
Round/Row 7 has the same crochet stitch pattern as rows 4-6, but use the white yarn for this row. At the end of Row 7 (white), clip and tie on the darkest color.
-
Step 6
Row 8: Fold circle in half, this is what makes the slice design. Use darkest color and single crochet through all stitch tops (4 loops) for 3 stitches, then do 2 single crochet in next stitch, repeat pattern to end.
To make loop: chain 10 stitches, connect to last stitch on fruit pattern and tie off. -
Step 7
To make seed design: Use a yarn needle and yarn to embroider, with black, white or other color, lazy daisy stitches or stitch lines, weaving through the yarn across the slice.
Now you have hot pads that look like fruit slices for cooking use or for decoration!
