Things You'll Need:
- 2 Tablespoons grated beeswax
- 3 Tablespoons Oil (Almond Oil, Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Vitamin E Oil)
- 5 Drops Essential Oil for scent or flavoring
- 1/2 teaspoon red Henna powder (if color is desired)
- Drop or two of Honey
- Small glass pots with lids you can purchase these at health food stores, or reused glass pots from commercial lip balm make excellent containers
-
Step 1
BeeswaxCombine the grated beeswax and oil in a small glass bowl, sauce pan or double boiler. You may use the microwave to heat the mixture in a bowl, but be careful not to over heat it. The lip balm will heat quickly. Check it frequently to be sure it isn't over heating. If a double boiler or stove top method is used use the low heat setting.
-
Step 2
Stir the mixture constantly as it warms. When it is well blended, remove from heat.
-
Step 3
Henna PowderAdd the essential oils, henna powder and honey if desired. Henna is a natural powder derived from dried henna leaves. It is often used in natural beauty products to add color. Peppermint or spearmint essential oils add excellent flavor to lip balm. Honey will add a sweet flavor to the lip balm and has natural hydrating properties for your chapped lips. Mix well to ensure all the ingredients are combined. When the beeswax lip balm is fully blended, pour into your glass containers.
