Cerebral palsy

Altho this article is directed to those suffering with cerebral palsy anyone who is faced with a disability, advancing age or emotional problems can benefit from applying much of this advice.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1
    cerebral palsy information

    cerebral palsy information

Depending on your parents, you may not have grown up with alot of knowledge about your own condition. Look up cerebral palsy information. For instance, the cerebral palsy information you find will tell you cerebral palsy is a non-progressive disorder, meaning the brain damage does not worsen, but secondary orthopedic difficulties are common. You can also learn about the different types of cerebral palsy and find a cerebral palsy support group.

  2. Step 2
helping others cope with Cerebral Palsy

helping others cope with Cerebral Palsy

Don't constantly compare yourself to others who don't suffer with Cerebral Palsy, you may become depressed.Instead, consider what people with disabilities HAVE accomplished. Dr. Jan Brunstrom, who has cerebral palsy is the founder and director of the St. Louis Children Hospital's Pediatric Neurology Cerebral Palsy Center and is helping others cope with Cerebral Palsy. Also, Stephen Hawking a brilliant physicist and quadriplegic has made influential discoveries despite his disease.

  3. Step 3

When dealing with limitations strive to improve your skills and abilities to whatever extent you can.Set sensible, modest goals that are attainable within your limitations and rejoice when you are able to reach them. Keep in mind the Bible's words found at Galatians 6:4: "Let each one prove what his OWN work is, and then he will have cause for exultation in regard to himself alone, and not in comparison with the other person. We ALL have different GIFTS and they certainly are not all physical.

  4. Step 4
    typing with cerebral palsy

    typing with cerebral palsy

Use what abilities you DO have. One cerebral palsy victim confined to a wheelchair learned to type. He wrote spiritually uplifting letters to relatives, friends, and even strangers. He found this kept him so busy that it helped him cope with his loneliness.

  5. Step 5

When people are insensitive, say something hurtful or act like your'e invisible, recognize that most people do not mean to hurt or embarrass, we tend to fear or avoid what we do not understand. If YOU strive to go out of your comfort zone and talk with them they will learn to be comfortable with other people with disabilities.

  6. Step 6
    No more cerebral palsy

    No more cerebral palsy

When you wonder, "why do I have to have cerebral palsy?", recognize that the WHOLE human race is defective in some way. The Bible says at Romans 8:22, "All creation keeps on groaning together and being in pain together until now," But you CAN have a HOPE for the future. The bible promises at Isaiah 33:24 a time when "no resident will say: 'I am sick.'" And at Isaiah 35:6 a time when the lame one will climb up just as a stag does, and the tongue of the speechless one will cry out in gladness".

  7. Step 7

Many who suffer from cerebral palsy have found great strength and support through prayer. God understands your needs and your feelings and can even provide you with power to help you cope. 2 Corinthians 4:7 says "However, we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the power beyond what is normal may be God's and not that out of ourselves"
