Things You'll Need:
- Old T-shirts, sheets or other soft fabric to reclaim
- Scissors
- Reusable bag or container for rag roller storage
-
Step 1
Find old t-shirts, bed sheets or other soft fabric that can be reclaimed and repurposed to make rag rollers for curling your hair naturally. I made my rag rollers from one my partner's old undershirts and the soft, well-worn fabric is perfect.
-
Step 2
Using scissors, cut the reclaimed fabric into strips that are about one to two inches wide and about six inches long (this does not need to be perfect, just make sure they are long enough to tie).
-
Step 3
To use the rag rollers to create curls naturally, start with damp hair and separate into sections that are no more than one inch. Keep in mind that the smaller the section, the tighter the curl.
-
Step 4
Wrap the section of your hair around one of the rag rollers and wind (as you would with a curler) then tie the fabric. You don't need to tie it in a knot, if you tie the fabric once and pull it tight, it should stay in place. For added security, you can always go ahead and tie it in a knot, it just makes it a little more time-consuming to take the rag rollers out.
-
Step 5
Leave the rag rollers in your hair overnight while you sleep - or at least for a few hours if you are curling your hair with rag rollers during the day.
-
Step 6
When you are ready to style your hair, simply untie and remove the rag rollers. Depending on tightly you wound your hair around the rag rollers, your hair will be somewhere between soft curls and ringlets.
-
Step 7
Style your hair by finger combing and pulling the curls out into softer curls if they are too tight. Lightly spray with a hair curling product or natural hairspray and enjoy!
