Instructions

    • 1

Cut the cardboard sheets into shapes of hats and teacups in the size of a regular card. Write "Welcome to my un-birthday party" on the front, and all details of the event, including date, time and your address on the back of the card.

Ask guests to arrive dressed as their favorite character from the novel or movies. Decorate the hat- and cup-shaped cards by gluing small stickers, seed beads or pieces of fabric onto the cards.

    • 2

Cut out large hats, teacups and playing card symbols from the cardboard. Decorate these with downloaded pictures from the movies. The shapes will be used as wall decorations in the party area.

    • 3

Decide what costume to wear. Come as the evil red queen or the good white queen by wearing a long red or white gown. Dress like the mad hatter in a hat of any shape or color, mismatching trousers and jacket, and a vest. Look like Alice in a knee-length dress with a white pinafore.

Print a picture of the Cheshire cat or a big cat on a regular-sized piece of paper and cut out a grin in the appropriate size of the picture. This will be the used in a game similar to pin the tail on the donkey. Instead, party guests have to pin the grin on the cat.

Download templates of "Alice in Wonderland" charms templates from the Disney website and print on shrink paper. Let guests choose and cut out their preferred template and bake according to the instructions. The charms are the party favors.

Ask your local appliance store for an empty large cardboard box that was used to transport a washing machine or dishwasher. Store the box in a dry place until the beginning of the party. Place it at your door to represent the rabbit hole everybody has to crawl through to get to the party.

Get various tea cups with saucers in different sizes, patterns and shapes. Borrow from friends and families, or buy some cheap ones from thrift shops and yard sales. Ensure you have enough different tea cups and saucers to serve every guest. Also find two to three different old-fashioned teapots. Serve cold drinks from the teapots.

Prepare sandwiches and cupcakes with pretty decorations for the party table. Place the mismatched tea cups and teapots on the table together with some plastic plates. Decorate the table with colorful fruits and vegetables, including melon slices, carrot sticks, strawberries and grapes. Put a vase or two with either real or fake red and white roses on the table, and hide some paint brushes among the flowers.

Prepare a list of party games. Include lawn croquet where you divide the guests into two teams and give each group an umbrella and a toy hedgehog. Prepare an obstacle race course with chairs and large toys. Ask the players to roll the hedgehogs around the obstacles with the help of the umbrellas before returning to base and leaving the umbrella and hedgehog for the next player on the team. The group whose collective members first manage to perform the task wins.

Other games can include musical chairs with the "Alice in Wonderland" soundtrack or an adaptation of "Simon Says" where the words are replaced with "The Red Queen Says". You can also play tag and give the catcher a crown to wear. Whenever she catches someone, she has to call "Off with your head" and give the crown to the hostage who will take her place as catcher.
