Things You'll Need:
- storage containers
- baskets or bins
-
Step 1
Sort through all of the toys and separate any toys that are broken or that your children have outgrown. Broken toys can be recycled or placed in the trash. Outgrown toys can be donated.
-
Step 2
Set aside favorite toys that your children will definitely play with each day. Also set aside comfort toys such as stuffed animals, dolls, blankets, etc.
-
Step 3
The remaining toys should be separated into 4 storage containers or bins of your choice. I use inexpensive Rubbermaid or equivalent bins. Assure that their is a good mix of toys (electronic, educational, sensory, etc.) in each container. Label each container by week- Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, and Week 4. The number and size of toys will determine the size of each container.
-
Step 4
Designate a day each week to rotate the bins. Store the other three bins out of sight of your children. This will help your children stay interested in their toys and help de-clutter your living space.
-
Step 5
You can organize the current week's toys in baskets or bins to help with cleanup at the end of the day. Children love to dump the toys out and, hopefully, put them back in the basket too! You may also have shelves in your home that will make it easy for them to see their toys.
